The Member of Parliament for Kinkizi West Constituency,Hon.James Ruugi Kaberuka has urged local leaders to unite and mobilize strong support for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking during a constituency council meeting held at Kihiihi Town council hall,Hon.Kaberuka said the gathering was one of several that will be held to strengthen unity among leaders, share ideas and ensure President Museveni garners 100% support from Kanungu District.
The meeting brought together district Councilors from Kinkizi West, Chairpersons NRM Flag bearers,LC 3 Chairpersons,NRM sub-county Chairpersons, Sub-county Speakers, Mayor’s and Town Clerks-all aiming to chart a clear roadmap for mobilization ahead of the elections.
Hon.Kaberuka reminded leaders of the 2014 Presidential pledge to grant Kihiihi a municipality, which was never fullfilled, adding that this time they will petition the President for district status when he visits Kanungu District on 26th November 2025.
He emphasized the need for fairness in district leadership, noting that some leaders have focused their efforts on one constituency which has hindered balanced development and stressed if such tendencies persist, Kinkizi West will push for it’s own district to ensure equitable service delivery.
The Legislator also called on leaders to champion the NRM manifesto goals of poverty eradication and improved livelihoods highlighting the need to rehabilitate the Ishasha bridge and support tourism around Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Parks which contribute over 60% of government revenue.
A committee was formed to oversee day-to-day coordination and mobilization in Kinkizi West.
Kanungu District Speaker Frank Byaruhanga said the meeting focused on development and receiving the 2015 reconciliation process among leaders. He noted that with the growing number of sub-counties, district status would bring services closer to the people, improve roads, create jobs and support the construction of new referral hospital.
